M. Emin Özyiğit 1936 yılında Tarsus’ta doğmuş. Gençliğinden bu yana, 63 yıldır, Tarsus ve çevresinde pamuk mamülünün farklı işleriyle meşgul olmuş bir pamuk simsarı.Tarsus’un yerli pamuk ekilen, kuru tarım yapılan, yağmur suyuyla mahsul alınan dönemlerinden anlatmaya başlıyor. Sulu tarımla beraber, ihraç edilebilecek elyaf uzunluğuna sahip pamuğun Çukurova topraklarına gelişi ve beraberindeki gelişmelerle devam ediyor. Pamuk ekimi ne zaman azaldı, yerine hangi mahsul nasıl ve niçin geldi ve bugün Türkiye’de üretilen güncel pamuk miktarı ne kadar, global ticaret ağlarında Çukurova’nın yeri neresi gibi sorularımıza cevap veriyor.

M. Emin Özyiğit was born in Tarsus in 1936. Since his youth, for 63 years, he has been a cotton broker who has been engaged in different businesses of cotton products in and around Tarsus. He starts to tell the story of Tarsus when local cotton was planted, dry farming was done, and crops were harvested with rainwater. With irrigated agriculture, the story continues with the arrival of cotton, which has a fibre length that can be exported, to the lands of Çukurova and the accompanying developments. It answers our questions such as when cotton cultivation decreased, which crops replaced cotton, how and why, what is the current amount of cotton produced in Turkey today, and what is the place of Çukurova in global trade networks.
