İki mevsim sonra, kışın ziyaret ettiğimiz nar bahçesine bu defa ekşi kaynatmalık nar toplamaya gidiyoruz. Sonbahara sarkan yaz sıcağından kaçıp Üçürge Deresi’nin kenarında sazlıkların gölgesine sığınıyoruz.

Nar bahçesinin zeminini boydan boya acebekler (börülceler) sarmış. Acebeklerin nara da çiftçisine de çok çeşit faydası dokunuyor. Ağaçların köklerini Çukurova’nın sıcağından koruyor, damlama borularından akan suyun buharlaşmasını önlüyor. Yaz boyunca hem sofralık hem satmalık acebek yetişiyor. Hasadı biten acebeklerden kalanlar toprağa azot bağlıyor. Acebekler otlara büyüyecek yer bırakmıyor ama ot ilacına da gerek kalmıyor, nar da toprak da kimyasaldan uzak kalmış oluyor.

Çiftçi bunu biraz da ekonomik krizin bir sonucu olarak yapmış. Gübreye de zehire de para harcamak istemedik, çözümü bir kilo acebeği tarlaya serperek bulduk, iyi ki de yaptık diyor.

Acebeklerin arasında hep bir elden yaylaya götürüp kaynatılacak narı topluyoruz. Arada nar kaynatma işine yardım edecek komşular için de birer torba acebek toplamayı ihmal etmiyoruz.

Çuvalları bağlayıp nar ekşisini pekmez ocağında kaynatmak üzere yola çıkıyoruz. Yolumuz uzun önce Kızıldağ Yaylası’na oradan da Pozantı’nın Asar Yaylası’na gideceğiz.

After two seasons, this time we go to the pomegranate garden we visited in winter to pick pomegranates for sour boiling. We escape from the summer heat of autumn and take shelter in the shade of the reeds on the banks of the Üçürge Stream.

The pomegranate garden is covered with cowpeas. Cowpeas have many benefits for both the pomegranate and the farmer. They protect the roots of the trees from the heat of Çukurova and prevent the evaporation of the water flowing through the drip pipes. During the summer, both table and saleable Cowpeas grows. The leftovers of the harvested Cowpeas add nitrogen to the soil. Cowpeas leaves no room for weeds to grow, but there is no need for herbicides, and both pomegranate and soil are free from chemicals.

Farmers did this for economic reasons. They didn't want to spend money on fertiliser or poison, so they found the solution by sprinkling a kilo of cowpeas on the field, and they are glad they did.

We don't forget to collect a bag of Cowpeas for the neighbours who will help us boil the pomegranate. We tie the sacks and set off to boil the pomegranate syrup in the molasses stove. We will first go to Kızıldağ Plateau and then to Asar Plateau of Pozantı. (Deepl)
